Hi folks,

With the introduction of a color-screen iPod photo, I naturally wondered wheter one could hack it to record DV.
Now I found that there are some people developing a linux port for the iPod - currently, it does not run on the 4th generation iPods yet, but I believe this is only a matter of time.
As I understand it - correct me if I'm wrong - if it runs Linux, shouldn't it be possible to write an capturing application for it that grabs video from firewire and encodes it into AVI?
With the lastest iPod sporting 60 gigs of harddrive space,
it could be turned into a great recording device.

What's your opinion on this? As I am no programmer, I can not assess wheter it'd be practicable or not, but it sure could be a great alternative to tape.

Maybe any volunteers to develop such an application?

There was another thread that linked to a site where they had an ipod running Linux and had developed a high sample rate recording app for it. So, I guess it's entirely possible.

This has been discussed a couple of times before here:

In theory it may be possible. If there is a problem it will be speed,
3.6 MB/s DV stream is quite taxing for such a device and I have
no idea whether it would be able to handle that coming in over
firewire and then recording it to the harddisk.

How much does such an iPod cost?
