Finally I have to deal with the issue of keying out of FCP. I have some properly shot footage against green screen and we need to pull clean mattes. From what I have read here, I'm thinking about investing in the Nattress Film Effects for the G Nicer chroma reconstruction filter. Anyone have any other thoughts/suggestions that I might have overlooked while searching through the archives?

Why not use the key filter in FCP? I have never had a problem.

I just hear things...that DV is rough on chromakeys due to the 4:1:1 sampling, and that getting a really clean matte without having to soften the edge significantly can be hit or miss.

I haven't used Nattress's plug but I know there is a free filter on Adam Wilts site (http://www.adamwilt.com/SteppyEdges.html). There is also a little article on Ken Stone's site (http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/chroma_key_fcp_hd_monahan.html) where he refers to both Adams filter and Graemes G-Nicer (http://www.nattress.com/filmEffectsGNicerTests.htm). The article would be worth a read for 4:1:1 keying.
