Does anyone know of a web site that shows the differences in the xl1 lenses?

What do you mean my "differences"? Photos of the lenses? Each of the lenses' specifications tell the basic story of their characteristics. Look at the XL1 Watchdog section of this site (dvinfo.net/xl1.htm) for more info.

I remember seeing a website that showed the differences in lenses, how a 14x looked zoomed out all the way and how a 16x looked and whatnot.

You mean pictures that represent a visual comparison of the maxium telephoto capabilities of the lenses, right?

The difference between the 16x and the 14x is insignificant. The 16x is 5.4 - 87mm (620mm in 35mm terms) and the 14x is 5.7 - 80mm (577mm in 35mm terms). The difference in magnification is less than 10% which is indistingusable by the human eye. Size and distance are very hard for the human eye to judge. A general guideline is size must increase by at least 33% for the eye to notice a change in size.

I think it was a picture difference of a wide angle lens and a zoom lens, possiby. I take it a wide angle lens has nothing to do with a 14x or 16x lens?

Out and in are confusing terms when used to describe zoom positions. The 14x or 16x descripes the amount or range of zoom. For example the the 16x zooms from 5.4mm to 87mm (5.4 times 16 equals 87mm). The wide angle position are even more alike than the telephoto range (16x lens is 5.4mm or 38mm in 35mm film terms and 14x is 5.7mm or 41mm in 35mm film terms). The difference is much less than 10% and might not even show because of variable in the monitors viewed on.

There's practically no difference between the 16x auto, 16x manual and 14x manual at the wide end of the lens. There is a substantial difference with the 3x wide angle lens, however. Hope this helps,
