I am very curious. How many of you are geting a whining or a whiring noise from the tape transport. Sought of a high pitched noise. In a quite audio enviroment, this high pitched sound is recorded onto the tape.
Any help/solutions?
Thanks in advance-Lou Bruno

My friend's VX's don't have noticeable noise---just a bit of hiss on playback.

The level of noise depends on the camera. Mine is fairly quiet but the zoom motor makes noticable noise at max speed.
It is a fact of life that the on-board microphone is not a good choice, especially in a quiet environment. An outboard microphone that is just a few feet away will not pick up the whine.

For a good VX sound fix, get the one only BBC fix. Next step down is the Beachtek/Senn ME66/K6 solution.

The only whining noise I get is from my wife when I buy any new gear.
I use a Beach with a Sennheiser ME66 when I can and the onboard mic when I travel and have never had that problem.

Time to trade in for a new model, a newer (younger), one with less mileage, and preferably from "the 'Peg."

Hi Lou,
I'm using a VX2000 (around 8mths old) and am experiencing excessive whirring and whining noises from the tape transport as well. The problem only started a month or so ago but seems to be getting worse. The tape transport noise is obvious on all recordings when played back. Also, when in a quiet environment, such as a church, anyone within 3 meters of the camera can hear it. Very irritating... luckily I have not had to rely on the VX2000 for audio!
I't seems to be a mechanical issue with the tape transport. I am about to send the camera in to my local Sony service centre for repair (under warranty). I will let you what eventuates......
Peace
