What is a cheap/but good light for on top the camera?a?

You said cheap but did not mention a budget so cheap is a relative thing but here's a couple to consider.

Try the Sony 10/20W. It seems to be the best light for the money however you'll still need a couple of the big batteries for it. (more money)
If you don't mind being tethered to a battery belt you might look at the Bescor or NRG lights. Both are good values.
