I don't see any mention of 1080p on the official Panasonic pages, only 1080i...

Any info about that ?

These specs are listed on the panasonic page I found... (http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=93120&catGroupId=14616&modelNo=AG-HVX200&surfModel=AG-HVX200)

• 1080/60i, 1080/24p, 1080/30p, 720/60p, 720/24p, 720/30p, 480/60i, 480/24p, 480/30p
• DVCPRO HD/50/25 and DV recording

What page are you looking at?

Yes, that's where I originally saw mention of 1080p too, but on all the "unveiled" pages and brochures, I only see mention of 1080i:

Hmmm, good point.

I guess the reason that 24p is not trumpeted higher is that the feature won't be there on PAL compatible versions, where frankly it's not such a big deal.

The thing you should know about this camera is that if it's anything like the HDX400 or the Varicam, really it's natively 1280*720. It will upscale to 1280*1080i (like the HDX400) and downscale to 960*720p (like the Varicam) so to claim that it's every really shooting in 1080 might be taken as being misleading. [edit: this should read "to claim that it's every really shooting in 1080p might be taken as being misleading."]

Well yes, I understand that, but my point is that we had heard about it being able to output 1080p24 and 1080p30 (NTSC version) or 1080p25 (PAL version), and there is no longer any mention of ANY 1080p mode in the new press releases.

Just got this, so it seems we can all stop worrying :-)

http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showpost.php?p=190287&postcount=260

It seems it CAN output 1080 24p, albeit with a pulldown, though on designed to be turned into true 24p just as the DVX does in SD DV right now.

Just like to point out that in PAL land, we'd get true 25p with NO pulldown at all!

Luvverly!

"to claim that it's every really shooting in 1080 might be taken as being misleading."

Is that true? What's your source?

I don't think we should jump to any conclusions based on speculated imager specs. Even if you are correct (and you probably are)...I think the most important part of your sentence is "like the Varicam".

Keep in mind we're talking about a $6000 camera.

If that recording method is good enough for a $65,000 Varicam, then I'm pretty sure it will work out fine on the HVX.

I'm not sure about you, but the Varicam footage looks great to me!

If you read the Panasonic brochure carefully, you can read: "All 1080, 720, and 480 signals support 24p and 30p frame rates." (page 6 of 8).

Can I just point out that everything I've mentioned so far is speculation at this point, so I don't expect to be hauled over the coals if I'm wrong.

I can't remember the fellows name, but he was a Panasonic rep at VideoForum UK in January, giving a presentation at the High Definition for FCP presentation. He stated that the native resolution of the HDX400 was 720, even though it would record 1080i, which I took to mean that the CCDs took 720p and the cam resampled it to 1280*1080i. It would make sence to me if the HVX does the same thing.

The line about "claiming 1080i being misleading" is again speculation that Panasonic don't want to be seen as promising anything that doesn't meet everyone's expectation, look how hammered Sony got over CF24, even though they were (and still are) very careful not to make any false claims for it.What I should have said is "claiming 1080p might be seen as misleading" (I've ammended the original post). Anyway, it's merely my opinion on other potential opinions, informed by guesswork, so really it doesn't need sourcing.

Luis, certainly nothing I said was meant as a criticism of the format. In fact, to me as a camera, it looks like the front runner (or will be in Q4), expecially if this straight to a firewire drive option turns out to be true. I'm astonished the price is this low.
