View Full Version : Weird moire problem with XL2

I havn't noticed it b/4 but I just filmed a test footage (24p & 60i) and noticed a SEVERE moire problem with both settings when a pattern such as a brick wall enters the frame. I never had this problem with the dvx100a. I think it's the horizontal line scan but I've tried adjusting different settings with the "sharpness", "V line" but nothing worked.

I tried to screen-capture a frame from the footage to see if the effect is still there and this is the weird part. When you view the image at 100% (photoshop), the image is perfectly fine with barely visible moire effect but when you view the image at 66.7%, the effect shows up--this is what I see when I play the footage. here's the captured image:

I don't know if anyone has experienced the problem or maybe I'm just missing something. Any comment on how I can minimize this?

This issue has been discussed a lot in the past. A search turns up these threads and more:

"Interline Jitter" is a problem with MiniDV. Comes with the territory and 1/3 inch chips.
