I guess this as good a place as any to start.

I'm a graphic designer Fairfax, VA by day, but my wife and I are doing a little wedding videography startup. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a Sony VX2100 in a couple days, unless somebody wants to try and persuade me otherwise. I still haven't decided what I'm going to edit with; I use both Mac and Windows, but my Mac is a little underpowered for doing heavy editing.

I'm interested in finding out what the other wedding videographers on this forum use.

Hey Seth!

I'm located about an hour down I-95 from you guys in Richmond and wanted to extend a warm welcome from the Commonwealth. I shoot mostly corporate and narrative work, but I'm sure your choice of the VX2100 would be a great one for those dimly lit receptions and the like.

There are tons of great information and very helpful people here so you're sure to find the answers to almost any questions you may have.

Good luck with your future endeavors and keep us posted on how things are going.

-Tim

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!

John, unfortunately I'm out of town this weekend, so I won't be able to check out your movie. I did watch the trailer on the website, and it looks interesting.

Hi, I live in Fairfax too, not too far from the Fair Oaks mall either, maybe less than 2 miles, south of 66, just off 29. Welcome.

btw Seth, if you are close to the Circuit City off of Jermantown RD between 29 and 50 (behind Ruby Tuesday), check out the new HDV Sony HDR-HC1. They have it priced at 1999.00 and at least the preview video looks great. Worth a look before buying the VX.

Greg, you live south or north of 66?

Panasonic MX500
Vegas 6c
2 laptops, 2 towers, dual monitors
Maudio firewire
Iriver H10 (20meg)
RidgeLine Truck

Wow, nice to see there's a handful of us in NoVA.

Anyone know of a videocamera equipment rental place that's in our NoVA neighborhood?

Small world it seems. Joe, Greg & myself within the same area. I live 1.2 miles from Fair Oaks Mall. In fact I'm in my office overlooking the mall. Yeah I have a day job, not in video or film unfortunately. But I hope to be sitting in on a major production shoot sometime within the next few months though -I made friends with a successful DP/Steadicam Operator thanks to our shared interest in cars.

Greg, I live about 2 minutes from CostCo and Home Depot, just east of West Ox, you must be over close to that strip mall with CompUSA in it.

Maybe we should all have dinner some time. Talk shop?

cool, are any of you getting the HVX200 when it comes out. I think I got a gig shooting a Motorcross video and I may charge $300-500 per day to shoot and another $500-800 to edit. It all depends on the depth of editing they want. What do you guys think of that price (high or low) for Northern, VA?

I'm planning on getting the HD100U my self. I'm not familiar with VA rates. But if you have a good rep, your price sounds reasonable. (Not implying anything).
The HVX200 is a little too rich for me for the time being.

I'm not in the market for a new camera right now. I'm new to the DV hobby and starting things out with an old VX1000. But if I was handed a few grand and a 5 minute shopping spree, I'd love to get a DVX100. But it seems like HD is the way to go now too so I need to research those as well.

Greg, I'm not familiar with the rates either. But what you're estimating sounds fair to me.
