I need a way to mount a portable DVD player to my tripod for framing, composition, etc. No, I don't want one for just an LCD screen; I have a portable DVD player and want to work with it (in fact, if it broke, I'd replace it with another portable DVD player and not just an LCD screen).

The two ideas I have in mind are placing it in a sling bag mounted under the head attached to the tripod legs; saw one somewhere (other than the Bogen one at B&H), but can't find it now. Google needs a "Use mental image" button.

The other idea is a flex arm with a small shelf with the ability to clamp the flex arm to a tripod leg. The small shelf (6" to 8") would be required to hold the DVD player.

Ideas? Links?

I don't know if any of these meet your needs, but this company has some pretty cool ways to mount a lot of different things....

I use a Bogen Super Clamp with the Magic Arm and Video Monitor Holder (7"x 11-1/2"). I can clamp it on a tripod leg or a desk (or anything close) and it will allow you to position the shelf in different positions and then lock everything down with one handle. I usually have a 7" LCD monitor and small audio mixer on mine.

Don't do a flex arm. Not strong enough. Boyd, thanks for that MobilCX link! Damn, that's a lot of mounting stuff!

I thank y'all for the input.

Boyd, I didn't see exactly what I wanted for this application, but I definately bookmarked that site (and the one you listed on another topic for stage supplies/fabric.

Dan, I had not considered the flex load bearing capacity, sounds like you saved me some money and heartache.

Hart, the Bogen parts you listed come as a kit (1352K) and it looks like the best solution so far.

Patrick,
How about mounting a flash bracket to the tripod, then mounting the DVD player to a rotating ball shoe mount (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?ci=1&sb=ps&pn=1&sq=desc&InitialSearch=yes&O=SearchBar&A=search&Q=*&shs=NR59007). One of our guys attached a 7" LCD monitor (http://www.pana3ccduser.com/showthread.php?t=1737) to his GS400 using one of these.

Another idea that I was considering for my setup was a DVD player mount like the one in my camera crane post a few days ago, but held onto my Bogen 028 legs with a 3/8" bolt in the top strap mount. This would cost about 10 bucks. Because the player has a tilting screen, you don't really need a tilting mount.

I use an elastic strap with velcro at each end, around the player's battery pack (sticks out to the rear of the player) to secure it to the platform.
