I got clearance to release some of the practice day footage for the Western Region championships, and as long as it's not used for b'cast, you're welcome to have at it to ascertain what the Z1 can do. Only three clips, as I'm trying to not let my bandwidth climb to over a grand again.

Thanks Douglas...

I hope those who keep asking for "native" HDV video will check your clips out...

All of the Z1 MotoX video looked like video game footage, a PS3 MotoX game to be specific. Maybe some game developers may want your footage! I'd be very surprised if they do.

The file you downloaded is likely the native m2t... the surfer clip I downloaded definitely is... and unless FCX recognises m2t files you aren't going to be able to watch it.

Get VLC. It's free for Mac and PC. Make sure you adjust the interlace mode of the player after you start clip playback - blend seems to work fine for me... but experiment a little.

Make sure your screen resolution is set to at least 1920 horizontal and 1080 vertical. Don't try watching HD/HDV on 1024x768 or 800x600 settings.

Great,

I do not see any reduction of the resolution with panning. When I view it frame by frame, I was really impressed by the sharpness of the bike even in the middle of the pan. It is CF 25 and the general theary is CF reduces resolution.

Is there a difference in Z1 and FX1 regards to the CF mode.

I was impressed with the moto-x footage also. Riding moto is something I sometimes do, and the video of the jump imparted the realistic sensations of high speed, particularly the 1st and 2nd place riders on the Suzuki and KTM. I really enjoyed the angle from below catching the riders airborne against a backdrop of sky that does not crush the details of the rider and bike, nor does it blow the background highlight. Great latitude.

The video was shot with a high shutter speed, effectively freezing the motion of wheels where I could count the spokes and see every clump of dirt thrown up.

The panning and motion was extreme. The picture did break up, but the amount of it was wholly acceptable under the circumstances and did not ever look soft.

The other footage, sled ride and surfer walk are exactly what I am looking for. Great fluidity to the surf, excellent latitude and tone, some chromatic aberration yes, a very live 1080i60 realism.

This footage is really good. The first time i saw it a month back it made me want to buy the FX1. I now have it ordered and it should be here tomorrow! I also do motocross videos. I hope to go riding with some of my buddies at my friends track and hopefully be able to FULLY test out this camcorder in HDV and get some footage hosted for all of you guys and gals to see!

Thanks,
