Hi,
I own a camera rental company in Poland. About two months ago an: EX3 set and an EX1 set had been stolen from me (rented, and never returned). They included:

EX3 (sr. # 403001 )
2x BPU60, 1xBPU30
1x SxS SONY 32 gb, 1x SxS SONY 8gb
Sony battery charger
Kata bag cc-193

EX1 (sr. # 405064 )
2x BPU60, 1xBPU30
1x SxS SONY 32 gb, 1x SxS SONY 8gb
Sony battery charger
Kata bag cc-197

Sennheiser EW100 transmitter & receiver set
Beyer-Dynamic 770 Pro headset

The Police in poland (Warsaw) did not do anything. I just got an protocol saying that they could not find the guys from the ID's i've copied from the thiefs.

If anyone would have any info - i would be very gratefull. It's a big loss to me. The cameras where not insured, because it's almost not possible to insure a "camera for rent" in Poland.

It's easy to check the serial number of the camera, even if the sr. # sticker is pulled away. You just have to push the MENU, JOG & CANCEL button at once, to get into the hidden menu, where You can see the sr. #.

If You happen to have any info, please let me now: biuro@fastmedia.com.pl
Thanks,
Chris

Krzysztof,

I feel sorry for you. If you PM me with the serial numbers and the guys' ID data, I'll keep an eye on them, and spread the news.

That's horrible, Krzysztof!

Serial numbers also appear on the camera's sticker bottom (often times scratched off by thieves when resold, but not always) as well as SN's are embedded in every recorded clip as META data. You can see it with Clip Browser.

For anyone renting equipment out this is a warning. I require 2 forms of ID and production insurance before renting out my gear. I have lost a lot of potential business because of these policies but I have never lost any equipment!
