Hi

I use Vegas 7 and need to edit Pentax K-X stuff: 1280x720p at 24fps in AVI Motion JPEG .
How can I do it?

Thank you

Ron

You could upgrade to Vegas Pro 8 or 9 which have an MJPEG codec built in :-)

If you don't want to do that though, another option is to install the trial version of the MainConcept MJPEG codec (http://www.mainconcept.com/site/prosumer-products-4/motion-jpeg-codec-785/information-797.html).
As long as you only use it for decoding, it won't put a watermark on your video.

Hi Mike

I checked the Vegas 9 manual and in pag. 428 it says: "Vegas Pro software requires you have MJPEG codec installed locally on your workstation. Check to make sure that the appropriate MJPEG codec is installed on your PC."

So what did you mean when you wrote "You could upgrade to Vegas Pro 8 or 9 which have an MJPEG codec built in"?

Thanks

Ron

Ron, I'm not sure why the manual would say that.
In the Readme for Vegas Pro 8, it says Support for opening MJPEG-encoded AVI files.
All I know is that V8 Pro allowed me to open files from sources such as digital still cameras that claimed to be AVI files but were actually MJPEG encoded without having to install the codec I recommended to you.

Thank you again Mike.
Unfortunately I can`t test it because I don`t have any MJPEG / AVI file yet, as well as Vegas 9 installed.

- Vegas 7.0e -
Well, I downloaded and instaled MainConcept MJPEG codec demo.
I also downloaded an AVI MJPEG file with its audio and video (24,000 fps, 1280x720x24, MJPG_MainConcept Video V3.2.4).
But when I play the clip, there is only audio playing with screen black.
I don`t know what`s going on.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Ron

Ron, I still have Vegas 7.0e on my machine.
If you can give me the link to the clip, I 'll try it on my machine and let you know if it works for me.

Thank you Mike
As I said, in the downloaded clip properties apears 24,000 fps, 1280x720x24, MJPG_MainConcept Video V3.2.4.

Ron, I have an MJPEG codec from Morgan Multimedia that I had purchased in my Vegas 7.0 days and it opened this file with no problem so I can't say why the MainConcept one wouldn't work.
This codec has a free 60 day trial and, if it works, it's $20 U.S. to purchase.
Morgan Multimedia - Home of the MM MJPEG video codec (http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/technicalsV3.htm) for the details.

I only have Vegas ver.6 and it only imported the sound of the AVI of my Pentax K-x
Googling for a solution I first installed GSpot to check installed codeces and it said that all necessary codec are installed.
then I ran into this thread.
So I went ahead and just installed the 2 codec recommended in this thread.
Now Vegas imports the video track too but it only shows a black frame, same as reported by Ron German.

anybody with any suggestion to make K-x video work in Vegas 6?
Ron, did you finally get the K-x's AVI to work with Vegas 7?
thank you very much for any suggestion,

cheers,
Andreas
