Nice work, Ted. I love the dynamics of your video, it keeps flowing naturally and you have chosen the right speed, changing clips at the right time.

The only thing I would change is the music - maybe I'm listening with a "preset" ear because I used that Digital Juice tune for two years in a talkshow intro (the short, 30 seconds version). May I suggest something local, it would add to the beauty of the whole production.

I had the chance to put my hands on a 7D over the Thanksgiving holiday and shot some video for testing purposes. I have to wait a bit until I put together my i7 machine, the old one being too slow for AVCHD, although it works if I transcode first to Canopus HQ. What an amazing camera! And I can't wait to test my new PC and Edius with something really hard...

Very nice Ted; but agree with Ervin on the music; need something a little more with a native Philippine flavor .... maybe some Adobo and Ba-bing-ka!! (Yes, so that's food...but really good food!!)

How do you like Edius? Did you convert in ProCoder first?

I convert to HQ first before editing. I find the batch convert inside edius, faster than procoder.

not only is it faster, its also intuitive. For instance, in procoder, after you import the clips to be converted, you can only load one target settings for all the clips. SO if you have clips thats 24p, 30p, 60p you have to convert them separately.

Inside edius, when you import all clips to the BIN, you can select them all, right click and do a BATCH CONVERT. all you have to do is assign which folder to place the files and edius does the rest, weather its 24,30 or 60, they will retain the same frame rates.

Thats a time saver there.

I have tried to render out our footage to Canopus HQ to get the best out of it in the hq setting. I have an i7 920, and the procs barely lifted, the rendering is s slow i had to give up - I had about 20 5d clips at 30p that needed converted. I would rather editin in Edius with minima chages vs learning a new NLE>

Then I used mpeg streamclip - and at least it engaged the proessorsl I also tried the neoscene trial, so I am wondering if anyone has any success with this combination.

Yes, I find 2 hours of AVCHD is taking 4 hours or so in Edius Batch Convert on a i7 920.

Even after it's converted it struggles to play 2 streams (Windows 7 64bit).

Roll on Edius 6!

Are you saying you can barely play 2 streams of Canopus HQ?

Something has got to be off if that is your situation. HQ is a breeze on the system and should play easily on an i7 920 (the processor I have as well.)

Nice Work Ted! Edius may be more intuitive, but is the quality equal or better than the standalone Procoder 3. Did you test them? Just curious if they use the same engine?

I see no visible difference in quality between converted files in Procoder and those within edius.

Unless you are doing pre-processing in ProCoder, the process should yield the exact same results as in Edius.

The actual transcoding is done by the codec, not the software used.

Beautifully done. I did like the music as well. It was a little majestic implying a magical place.

The videography is stunning. Would you mind sharing what settings you used on the D7?

Yup, in the bin, the choice is only HQ. It it have an .avi extension. For this project I shot mostly in 24P, for some sequnce which I intend to slow down in post, I used 30P for slightly slow effect, for fast moving subjects like the girl on a trike, I used 60P.

Camera settings is mostly neutral with contrast and sharpness pulled way down. In some scenes, i used the superflat setting, with modification, I didnt like the skin tone in those settings.

Now I usually use neutral with sharpness and contrast all the way down.

After the HQ conversion, does the video then play fine in the timeline.....no stuttering or jerkiness?

Oh, I forgot to ask....I really like the fonts you chose (not sure which ones they are). Did you use Titlemotion Pro for titling?

Yes, I use Titlemotion when doing basic captions and subs. Otherwise AE is the best way to place important titles. Very sharp.
