So I am working on a project that involves using some video from an extremely low end camera- the Aiptek GO-HD cam. I've done this in the past, simply using procoder to convert the h.264 mov files to HDV for editing first. In the past this has always worked fine, same camera and everything.

Now when I try to open the mov files in procoder, I immediately get an unknown error. The same files play just fine in VLC media player. When I try to open the files directly in edius, I can see the video, but the audio is gone.

Does anyone have any ideas? I really need the video and the audio.... and this project is time sensitive so I would very much appreciate any suggestions.

so be sure you download and install the latest quicktime player

That's one option. However, installing the latest quicktime player is problematic for PC users trying to do encodes to the .MOV container because it crashes when trying to select the audio tab. Problem was first seen in 7.6.4 and persists in 7.6.5.

So, the OP could download g-spot "The Codec Appliance" and use it to open the file in question. This would tell him what video and audio codec the file was encoded with, then he could simply find and download the needed audio codec.

Alternately, he could download mpeg streamclip, see if that will understand the movie, and convert the file to something that works. While he may not need the video from that conversion, he could simply load that file into the NLE and strip off the video portion, and just use the audio with the video file he's already got.

Adam, have you tried using VLC to convert the video to a different format? It doesn't always work but it's worth a try if you are stuck.
