Yes, very true.
It seems the 2.0.3 firmware update has a minor audio glitch in it. Let's hope they haven't released the plugin because they're being thorough this time.

Well, maybe that was a bit more cheeky than cunning. ;)
Well there is an ad agency involved and they have changed the game for RED and the entire industry. I'd play that up, wouldn't you ?

Darryl Yee August 22nd, 2010, 11:03 AM I tried to import a 9 minute clip and it went successfully, but when I opened it in the viewer only 4 seconds was imported. Thankfully I didn't format my media card before discovering this.
I tried on a different batch of files from another card and some clips imported completely, but most didn't, and some just errored out. Right-clicking Retry on the error clips worked. The files that didn't import completely didn't give any indication anything was wrong.
This plugin is extremely unreliable and buggy. I hope Canon updates it soon.

Well, been using this plug-in for the last 5 months without any trouble!
How is your workflow Darryl? I always make a image copy of the card to disk before doing any log and transfer (L&D). Then you distribute this image to other disks for long time back-up.
Doing L&D from the card could have other issues than the software, bad connections, faulty cable etc.

When this problem occurs are you doing the log and transfer directly from the card or are you backing it up first and creating a custom path?
I have not noticed that any of my clips are incomplete, but I have noticed the odd way it names the clip if you try to re-encode it. I guess they used this naming convention so that you don't overwrite clips with the same name and I have to admit this has probably helped me more the hurt me.
I think I might start using MPEG Streamclip again until this issue gets sorted out. I'm shooting so much that I can't afford the extra time it takes to check every clip as their transfered. I need to be able to trust that it works correctly 100% of the time.

My workflow is to do the L&T after I have copied the card image to the hdd.
I will investigate and study this in future loggings, just to make sure that this is not of any issues at my place.
Just a note: has there been any update to the plug-in? In case I have a newer version than you got. I downloaded the plug-in in May some time this year.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I really think this is a widespread problem and many people are not aware that it is happening because the plugin gives no error indication.
After quite a bit of troubleshooting I think I discovered a workaround:
-In the Log & Transfer window, click the gear icon and select Preferences
-Click the 'Clear Logging Autofill Cache' and the 'OK'
(you should also uncheck Remove Advanced Pulldown and Duplicate Frames if you're not working with 24p).
That seems to have fixed the problem for me whenever there is a troublesome batch. I'm not sure how often you need to clear the cache.
Paul Joy August 25th, 2010, 07:59 AM I always ingest from hard drives. The files from the CF cards are copied on to my NVS2500 either on location or when I get home from a shoot and then copied from the NVS to my drobo's as soon as I get back to the mac.
Regarding the naming convention issue, it would make much more sense if the plugin renamed the clips by appending numbers to the end of the filename rather than totally changing the name. So, MVI_6380 would become MVI_6380_1.

There is no reference to bug fixes but only support for the newly announced 60D.

I'm not even sure how to come up with a definitive test to determine if this upgrade works as it should. If anyone tries this upgrade please let us know how it works.
I hope they did more than add the 60D to the list.

Luc De Wandel April 13th, 2011, 12:47 AM I've downloaded and used the last version of this plug-in (by the way, there's a new update now announced for april 24th), but it doesn't perform as promised. The description lists as one of the benefits: "create a disk image (DMG file) of the memory card that may be mounted and used for log and transfer operations in place of the physical card..."
But when I right-click over the mounted CF-card (as instructed), I do not get "Archive to disk image" among the choices in the pop-up menu. I use FCP 6.0.6 which should work perfectly with this plug-in. Any ideas what might go wrong here?

You need to select hierarchical list view so that you can see the card name (NO NAME in my attached screenshot) then right click on that.
