I have never owned a laptop, only CE devices (way small) or real desktops.
if i was to work towards things like this
Newegg.com - PCs & Laptops,Laptops, Notebooks & Netbooks,Netbooks (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2034940772&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&Order=PRICE)
(new egg tablets)
Fry's Electronics | (http://www.frys.com/search?search_type=regular&sqxts=1&query_string=netbook&cat=0)
(frys netbooks)

many of them "atom" processors

What would be the possibilites?
Capture using an Adapted Firewire HDV signal?
Running Sony Clip Browser or VCL on a "starter" windows7 displaying on an VGA external?
Using it to Copy FLASH Clip data off to a hard drive?

Many of the display LCDs that i have have some sort of "VGA" connection, so i was thinking that is how it could be a displayer?
i assume there is a PCMIA card that will do firewire ?

what i want would be:
10-12" screen with TOUCH-Screen.
around 2Lb weight
at least 120G available space , SSD replacement hard drive possible
At least 4Hours runtime at a time, even if i have to add in a battery myself.
Capture - Flash Memory Copy - Display.

what it would NOT have to be:
100% reliable
Display HD on itself
Super fast
a Monitor of any sort

Search turned up this http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/canon-xh-series-hdv-camcorders/143970-netbooks-xha1.html , but it isnt sony, and (as usual) no followup.

could any of this $300 stuff pull that off? or should i not even try?
