I dont really need to edit.. but want to al least see clips on my laptop.Macbook.

imovie ofcourse doesn't work,dont need FCP.. is there something inbetween..heard there was some sort of version of FCP (lite)....

QuickTime Pro does it for me.

Hi Robin,
I think you need the plug-in for playback CD quick time files. If you don't have FCP installed, try playing it with VLC player for MAC
VLC media player for Mac OS X (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html)

I think QT Pro will only work if you already have FCP installed, otherwise you won't have the right codec to decode the media.

The alternative is to use the XD Decode codec from Calibrated Software - it's not free but a LOT cheaper than FCP.

We use this along with the free Sony XDCAM Transfer software to browse and view clips very effectively on a mac.

Note: Final Cut express does NOT have codec support for XDCAM HD and therefore won't work with nanoflash clips.

Actually the footage/clips seems to play back a bit jumpy.. 50Mbps.. long GOP QT 1080i/25p.. maybe the processor in my mac book is just too slow for big files?

Are you playing them off a CompactFlash card?

If so, are you using a USB 2.0 Card Reader or a faster model?

Have you copied the files to your internal hard disk?

Are you playing the files off an external hard disk connected via a USB 2.0 connection?


In other words, where are the files? How is the device connected to your MacBook?

What program are you using to play the files?

What do you mean by 1080i/1080p?

With more details we can be in a better position to assist you.

Playing off my computer.with Calibrated EX code software.
Seems to run ok now.. dont know why.. they were all jerky.. maybe some other program going at the same time?
I recorded out of my camera HDX900 at 1080i/25p.
