View Full Version : Vertical Thin Red Line on Edge of Clips

Hi,

I'm just capturing today's footage and noticing a thin red vertical line on the left edge of my clips. I can't see it on the darker clips, but can on the lighter, from top to bottom of the clip, only on the left side. I know this can be cropped, but I don't want it there and it hasn't been there before. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Thanks so much for any help!

Lucinda

P. S. I just put one of the captured clips into a 16:9 timeline in Adobe Premiere 6.5, I use a Mac and am viewing on a tv which is a NTSC 4:3 monitor. I don't see the thin red line on the left. My concern tho' is if this were being seen on a wide screen tv, etc., would the thin red line show up? And, what on earth is the thin red line any way? Ugh, the learning curve...

Hi Lucinda. I am 99% sure that about the only place you would be able to see the outer edge of your footage would be on a computer monitor. Otherwise it is out of the "view safe" area of TV's.

Kevin's right, even on 16:9 monitors it'll be out of the TV-safe area.

But if you use a PIP or other effect that shows the clip edges you would need to crop it.

By the way, does anybody else see this? Does somebody have a frame grab that shows it?

Chris,

I have frames of it, but not sure how to send it to you....unless I email a jpeg to you directly. I'd be glad for you to see it as I'm not sure what's causing it. Please let me know. I wasn't getting the red line before yesterday and it's only on the left very edge, a thin red line.

It may be out of the "view safe area for tv's" but what about theater screens?

Is it only showing up after being captured or is it on the tape? If its after capture then you should do some trouble shooting on the NLE side.

It's showing up on being captured. Doesn't seem to be on the tape. However, I can only view on regular tv at 4:3. When I view the tape in the viewfinder it's not there either.

The thing is I haven't had a problem capturing before, using the same cam...no red line...so I don't really see how there could be a problem in post with the NLE..same settings. hummmm.

I would love to send the offending line pict, but don't know how to send on this forum, except text..don't know how to send a jpeg for you to see.

Hi Chris,

I'm sending one jpeg. If you need to see more, let me know.

I don't see it when watching on tv, but then I don't have a 16:9 tv here.

And, I don't see it in the viewfinder...only when capturing and viewing on the computer(s).

Thanks so much for your help!

Lucinda & Chris,

There was another reported case of this (or very similar) here on this board:

XL2 - Darker Right Border? (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=46115)

No resolution reported in that thread.

Patrick,

This is a very thin red line on the left of the clip....I can't see it in the viewfinder, only in post....

Hope there's an answer and I'm sure there will be. I'm looking hard for one.

Chris,

The other frame is the same as mine in terms of what's happening. My concern, as I said before is: will this show up on a movie screen in a theater or on TV?

And, of course, what could cause this?
