I need to obtain an adapter for the EX3 to Nikon lenses (from Mike Tapa or anyone) within the next few days. Unfortunately, the volcano makes it impossible to order from England. Can someone suggest an outlet in the US that carries these?

Vortex Media has no plans to offer a Canon adapter because it would be impossible to change the aperture during shooting. Because of the way Canon designs their lenses you would only be able to change the iris of the lens by taking it off the EX3 . . . mounting it on an SLR . . .changing the f-stop . . . and then putting it back on the EX3. You'd have to do that every time you wanted to change the iris, which would be dozens or hundreds of times during a day's shooting -- and whether you get the aperture right or not at any given time would be hit or miss.

As you know, iris is the only correct way to set exposure on a video camera because changing the shutter speed can have unwanted side effects with motion blur and strobing.

Mike Tapa told me a couple of months ago that he was working on a Canon EF adapter which would hvae an electronic interface to allow aperture adjustment.... how that would work, I have no idea. (maybe a knob on the side of the adapter?) He said that they had already sacrificed one Canon DSLR in the process, but were going to forge ahead. I'm still holding out hope that this may be possible one day.....

I'd like to hear about the differences pros/cons of each the Adaptimax Plus and MTF (Mike Tapa's) adapters? Which I'm trying to decide which one to get to use with my EX3.

Harry, you missed some incredible light at Artists Point yesterday when the storm broke. The weather has been 50% rainy all week, but the times when it is not raining have been amazing. I've shot at Yellowstone several times but I don't think I've have had a week that was even 1/2 as productive as this one.

Garrett, I have one of Mike Tapa's adapters. Very good no complaints. It does as advertised. The Adaptamax however allows you to use the newer Nikon lens that don't have the external aperture rings. You dial in your iris with the set screw on the Adaptamax adapter. It's a brilliant and simple (mechanical solution). I have a bunch of old Nikon lens so the simple adapter worked for me but most people have one or more of the newer lenses that don't have the external iris rings.

I would like to correct you in this if I may please. Mike does an excellent job with his adapters and he was first to make an adapter for the new Nikon G and DX lenses. You maybe have purchased one of the first adapters he made for EX3 and never look back for whatever your reasons are, but, please look at the link below and if you have a Nikon G or DX in your case, my advise is to get one.

Regarding Adaptimax- look at the design... this Frankenstein bolt and inside of the adapter painted red or blue, that's just not photography/cinematography.... it's just....

I did indeed purchase mine early on. It was around 300 pounds if I recall. Wish I would have waited a few months now it is a third of the price.

I am curious though with Mike Tapa's adapter if there would be problems accessing the blue iris control ring. Has anyone used one of the Tapa adapters with the iris ring?

I do have it and its the best... one adapter all Nikon lenses... I have hold in my hand and used with EX3 only 2 adapters and you got the idea which one was the second ;-).... Mike's adapter is so easy to use and very easy to move with a finger on it. Also, he has a very small stop screw attached to the blue for a fixed iris or you could use it (the screw) for a opening and closing the iris. Very, very smooth. As you could see it the adapter has only the iris ring in blue. Everything else is as it supposed to be - black, just as your telephoto lens insight is.

Many people probably have tried to copy Mike's adapters, but, the reality is that out-there is only one Mike Tapa adapter.

Get it if you can Andrew. You would love it.
