one of the things i wanted to see for myself at nab was how well this worked for the ex1/r, before i bought the cam.
some have said that it gets kinda blurry around the edges.
first off, this is an excellant adaptor for the lcd since its the only way to really view your image, the vf is useless.
it comes with a 3x magnifier, thus this possible effect around the edges , i had them put on a different eyepiece so there is no magnification and its perfect. crystal clear and very easy to shoot with.
buying the ex1r now that this major issue for me is solved.
if you dont have one, you should.

I have been using this since they first shipped it last summer and it is excellent - I use it indoors and out - I agree with your assessment of the HoodMag - this is a new accessory and, I believe, a bit of overkill - when your eye is that close to the LCD screen you don't really need the magnification and there is some slight distortion. One of the things I like about it (compared with the HoodEye that shipped with my HoodLoupe) is the larger cup - more surface area to seal light out around your eye.

I agree with Jim,
The new magnifier eyepiece has finally perfected the Hoodloupe and I think its a great accessory for the EX-1 especially in daylight shooting where its hard to see the monitor.

I just bought one at NAB after I saw the dramatic difference between the EX1's eyepiece and the higher resolution view provided by the LCD with the Hoodman loupe.

Only one problem: the rubber eyeshade is loose and tends to fall. I'll have to find a way to secure it, as well as a way to lock the diopter.
