Hi,

I'm working on a timeline in fcp with footage from a XDCAM SD ( PDW-530P). It's IMX/625 at 50Mbs format.
The problem i have is that I can't render or create a new Sequence with that codec. FCP gives me the error message "Codec not found, you might need a hardware card....." . I think' it's a know problem, but my searches on the web didn't give an answer...

Any tips?
Now I work with the footage in a Apple ProRes sequence, but it looks like i'm loosing quality. The original IMX files are 12 bits! My next try is to work in an uncompressed 10 bits but that makes it huge at the end... ('cause i'm editing it as double screen in a Full HD sized sequence...).

Hi Frederico,

In order to edit IMX50 from a XDCAM PDW-530P you need to install Sony's XDCAM Transfer on your Mac. (Free software, available from http://support.sonybiz.net/software/detail.aspx?id=BPE-SS-03GK&model=PDZK-P1) .
During the install it will also install the right codecs in FCP.
Then you can transfer the files through XDCAM Transfer, using the PDW-530 in File Acces Mode (check if this is enabled in the camera menu) and connected to your Mac with a Firewire 400 cable.
The software will unwrap the MXF files from the XDCAM disk and import the clips as Quicktime .mov's on your harddrive.
These Quicktime files can then be imported in FCP for editing.
If you want to edit with the original MXF files directly, you need extra software like Calibrated{Q} MXF Import (Calibrated{Q} MXF Import for OSX (http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/MXFImport_Mac.asp))
