The main reason I chose Vegas a long time ago back at Version 4 was that I could figure out how to use it without having to study big heavy manual for hours and hours!!! My buddy got Adobe CS4 last year and the manuals are huge and detailed and you probably need a degree to even read them.

What you can do first off is download a manual from Sony and read thru that..you will probably need nothing more..or just use the help files.

If you do need some tutorials free then just search thru YouTube and you will find heaps of video tutorials on Vegas!!! If you finally really need some tuition then Douglas Spotted Eagle from VAAST has some awesome DVD sets which go thru the software in detail to help you learn

Good evening,

You would find the Vaast tutorials 1,2,3,4 8 very useful and they would definitely jump start you!!
but they do cost money and there are free ones on line if need be. I personally hate most utube stuff.

Youtube, there's endless amounts of tutorials on there, some are not too good but most are helpful.
Just type in sony vegas tutorial

Paul.

Look at the stickies at the top of this forum. One of them has several links to tutorials. One not mentioned so far is my newsletters (http://www.jetdv.com)

If you want a book, I recommend Vegas 6 Revealed, which you can work through. Can be bought for about £15 from Amazon UK.
Sony also has a book, Digital Video and Audio Production, which they call a "hands-on guide".

I found the VASST DVD and book helpful but the best thing I have found for a beginner like myself was Gary Kleiner's "The Vegas Pro 8 Companion" DVD set.

It is a 12 DVD set that is very comprehensive covering-

Input devices overview, Importing Media
Mastering the Timeline (2 discs - Part 1 & 2)
Tabs (2 discs)
Envelopes and Keyframes
Multicam
Compositing / Masking
Audio (2 discs)
Image Enhancement
Bonus Disc with more in depth info on selected subjects.

Try going out to some of the Sony webinars that are available out on the Sony site, I have provided a link to the last one on Vegas 9. You can search in the site for some of the archived webinars. I also found reading the manual from Sony to be helpful. I have to say if I can get around in vegas anyone can because I was a total editing virgin when I started using Vegas. Good luck.
