ive read on the forum that the default settings arent that great and alot of shooters are setting up profiles.
since everyone has their own take, i was curious if there is a general consensus on profiles that have worked well for everyone and where do i get them from
thanks

if you check the pp section on this site for xdcam... you can sort thru the possibilities... bill ravens "true color" and i remember another one called "real color" that would be a start. doug jensen's vortex media profiles produce a nice picture also.

if you have a monitor you could play with the settings and see what you like.

Jim

there is a huge thread on this issue:

http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/sony-xdcam-ex-cinealta/110902-picture-profile-recipes.html

it will take a while to work through it but there is a ton of very useable profiles posted there. You might want to test some of them to see what works for you.

I use Doug's settings from his vortex media DVD for my Ex3 and I am well pleased with them.

There's another thread going on here now at "EXcellent 'must have' for EX cameras" where the discussion is about this very topic too. General consensus is Doug Jensen's PPs in his Vortex Media material are some of the best to start with. As Doug notes, Sony intentionally kept the out-of-the-box picture to be bland, since each owner should calibrate the camera to their own tastes. Doug provides a fine basic upgraded picture that is a great place to start from, however, many many people stick with his PPs since they seem to have such wide appeal.
