It looks like there is a new codec (6.2.3.453) available. Are there any important changes, and do I have to uninstall NeoHD v5 to update to the new codec? Thanks!

David Newman May 18th, 2010, 11:59 AM When the third digit changes in the codec it is a minor bug fix, is some very narrow corner case, we not normally recommend an update unless the product version changes also. In this case we fixed a 3D mode when you are shooting with a beam splitter rig and the left eye is flipped and the right is straight -- i.e. corner case. :) Marc Brackhahn May 18th, 2010, 12:11 PM Thanks David! Craig Irving May 19th, 2010, 11:17 PM Speaking about changes in the codec, I just finished a feature-documentary recently and I started the project probably back in January/February 2008 which is when I would've converted my media to Cineform AVI files. Would there be much (if any benefit) to re-capturing the media from the original tapes today vs the result I got back in 2008? I hope it's easy to do, I'm not sure if it's frame-accurate or if it's more trouble than it's worth. I presume the advancements of meta-data won't be all that relevant to me since we shot in HDV on tape. But perhaps there's a qualitative advantage to doing this? Would love to know, always been curious :) David Newman May 19th, 2010, 11:24 PM No reason to do it. The encoder is hardly every changed, yes we add more metadata, and speed ups occasionally, but quality is solid. 99% of codec changes are in the decoder. |
