View Full Version : MTS to FCP workflow options....
Gerald Webb June 11th, 2010, 09:44 PM Hey guys, Ive got a heap of old files from my PC that are MTS, M2T, AVCHD etc.
What is the best way to get them into FCP?
Folder structure is long gone, so Log and transfer wont work, yeah?
Ive done a couple into Prores, but a 2 gb file ends up 14gb, and takes ages.
Is there a better way?
Per Johan Naesje June 13th, 2010, 02:00 AM Look at mpeg-streamclip, many people use it for cross platform conversions and its free!

Andy Mees June 13th, 2010, 04:19 AM Check out ClipWrap 2.0 :

Preston Poulter June 17th, 2010, 02:18 AM I've heard that FCP 7 can import .mts files directly. Is there any truth to that?
Andy Mees June 17th, 2010, 02:30 AM No ... maybe FCP 8 :-)
Rickey Brillantes June 17th, 2010, 07:15 AM You can do it in FCP 7, but you have to download the Sony plugin for it to work.
Preston Poulter June 17th, 2010, 02:50 PM I tried to find that specific Sony plug-in, but need some help. Can someone give me a link?
Rickey Brillantes June 17th, 2010, 02:55 PM Here you go.
Download Sony Recording Unit RAD Plugin (http://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/pro_hdv/fcp_plugin/)
Preston Poulter June 17th, 2010, 03:15 PM I installed that plug-in, but still don't seem to be able to import the .mts files. What am I doing wrong?
Rickey Brillantes June 17th, 2010, 03:19 PM Do not import, use the log and transfer.
Preston Poulter June 17th, 2010, 03:23 PM I use Log and Transfer but when I select the file with the .mts files it gives me a warning message that the file contains unsupported media.
Rickey Brillantes June 17th, 2010, 03:29 PM When I connect my Sony CX550V to my Mac, It opens automatic when I use the log and transfer. Are you opening the file from the camera or from a folder? If its already in your system you have to use Mpeg Streamclip or ClipWrap conversion, before importing it.
Preston Poulter June 17th, 2010, 03:38 PM Gotcha. I have a Canon Vixia HFS100. It also records in .mts format.
Robert Turchick June 17th, 2010, 03:53 PM toast 10 works with pure mts files. L&T in FCP requires the folder structure be in tact.
Gerald Webb June 18th, 2010, 06:30 PM so, uhm, just to clarify,
Can you use MTS files WITHOUT the folder structure, and WITHOUT transcoding with this plug in?
Dave Partington June 19th, 2010, 10:12 AM You can use MTS files without the folder structure with many third party tools (like Toast), but for FCP you need the entire folder structure because FCP validates things to make sure everything is how it is supposed to be, rather than trying to figure it out from the MTS files themselves.
