I could not capture and the icon to the far left under the capture window was highlighted. in searching through things I clicked on unregestereed preset 1 and all worked well.

what does that really mean, and am I not doing something to make it run straight up front as it should as it should?

You can save profiles of capture settings with those preset buttons. Perfectly fine to use them
