Sorry to bring up this topic again, but after reading several different threads on the subject, I'm very confused as to whether one can record audio with the XLH1 (original) onboard microphone and another XLR input simultaneously (3 total channels).

This thread makes me think it is not possible: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/canon-xl-h-series-hdv-camcorders/471342-using-front-mic-xlr-simultaniously.html

However, this thread makes me think it is: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/canon-xl-h-series-hdv-camcorders/71077-xlr-nat-mic-same-time.html

I thought the XLH1(a/s) just removed the possibility of 4 audio channels, but the XLH1 watchdog says this about the updated versions: "It is now possible to record audio from the onboard stereo microphone and an XLR input simultaneously; the signal from the onboard stereo mic is mixed down to mono and recorded to one audio channel while the signal from one of the XLR inputs (provided by the receiver of a wireless lav, for example) is recorded to the other audio channel."

This doesn't really seem like an improvement to me over the original XLH1. Is it not possible to record via the onboard mic and XLR inputs at the same time with the XLH1 (to 3 or 4 channels instead of the XLH1a's 2)?
