I have a shoot soon with a videographer who will use his Canon HDV camera (minidv tapes) while I will use my 720p JVC HD200UB.

Question. Will my HD200UB play back his 1080i tape ?

He can shoot 1080i in 30fps or 60fps.

Thanks

Hi, Patrick. Unfortunately the JVC and the Canon shoot totally different flavors or HD. Neither camera will play back the other's tape.

I run into this issue all the time. Luckily I own a Canon HV30 as well as my HD250. You may need to either borrow the other shooters camera to capture or have him capture the footage and burn a data DVD (perhaps several) or dump them to a portable hard drive.

Sorry. Wish I had better news for you. Have a good shoot.

What Chad is saying is correct. I have just this minute done a brief test with my HD200 and FX1 and neither would accept playback images.

1080i is only an output isn't it? The camcorder doesn't at all record to tape at 1080?

In a way, yes. They are just data streams. But the cameras are not computers and can only read one 'type' of output, as in this case.

The JVC's are 720p not 1080i, so, no, they don't.

Indeed, they are, just computers.

They are simply programmed differently, the same as Windows and Mac's are different.

JVC went 720, most everybody else bailed into 1080 of one flavour or another.
