I've been using the freeware encoder SUPER for a long time with reasonable to good results. Lately it has been triggering security software on my pc. For example, it triggers AVG Free version (I know, there is a trend here...).

I usually hold my breath in hit the "Allow" button and nothing ever seems to happen. Just wondering what is going on. I don't actually mind if SUPER is calling home about my boring life but am still curious.

Might be as simple as stats on what aspects of the encoding features people are using most. Anything on their user forums yet?

Personally, I hate software that feels it needs to "phone home" whever you use it, but if it's free, I'll cut it some slack.

I'd bet it's checking for program upates. I've noticed a lot of my freeware seems to check for updates regularly.
