I have 133GB of video in AIC *.mov format that I need to copy to a FAT32 formatted USB external hard drive to send to a friend for editing.

How do I get around the FAT32 5GB file size limitation to copy individual files from the Mac hard drive to the FAT32 formatted USB external hard drive we use to exchange files?

My friend uses a Windows box does not have a Mac.

How do you folks transfer large files?

How do you folks transfer large files?

1. Mac HFS+ formatted drive.

2. Video encoded as either ProRes (rare) or Avid DNxHD which is absolutely perfect for this kind of transfer.

3. Tell your friend to buy and install this: MacDrive Mediafour (http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/)


Apple has not opened up AIC for the PC. There is no way for your friend to read an AIC encoded file on the PC even if you get it to him. It's a dead end.

Avid's DNxHD codec is readable and writeable on both platforms, and it's free. ProRes is writeable on the Mac but not the PC. And it's gamma shift problems are notorious.

And by purchasing MacDrive, your friend can read, write, and if necessary, format Mac drives. It makes going back and forth transparent. I've been using it for years.
