We noticed recently that when we upgraded our Mac's from Leopard to Snow Leopard the the Quicktime player was different, for one It did look nicer, but it no longer displayed The Time code of our Files, as well as the playback from a Firewire 800 Reader or the Hard Drive was a bit Choppy at 280Mb(s)

So I found that with new installs of Snow Leopard it installs Quicktime X found here:
Apple - Mac OS X - What is Mac OS X - QuickTime X (http://www.apple.com/macosx/what-is-macosx/quicktime.html)

Which is Optimized for H.264 Video's as well as you tube,

But if you install Regular Quicktime Player 7.6.6+ found Here:

Apple - QuickTime - Download and watch videos, movies, and TV shows. (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/)

you will notice that you now have Time code back again, as well as File Playback is much improved playing the exact same files from before

Also note that Files played just fine in Final Cut Pro regardless of Which Quicktime Player you use.

Thanks for the info Andy when I purchased my MacPro 8 core and it came with OS 10.6 Snow Leopard pre-installed which has caused me many problems. Apple in it;s wisdom will not allow you to install OS 10.5 Leopard which is a much more stable OS and has Quicktime 7 .
With the installation of Quicktime 7 on a Snow Leopard computer you would also have Quicktime X installed as well, how do you tell the system not use Quicktime X and use Quicktime 7 by default.
I would love to revert Quicktime 7.

Do a Get Info on the video file you want to use QT7 for. In the section called "Open With", select "Quicktime Player 7"

Click Change All.

You may have to do it to an assortment of video file types like mp4 and other that you are used to using QT 7 for.
