R Geoff Baker December 6th, 2010, 12:03 PM I don't have an answer to your question ...
But maybe you can do it differently. The only difference between a six pin Firewire connection and a four pin one is the power. All camcorders use a four pin connection. So a six pin to four pin cord will never carry power ...

Andrew Carter December 6th, 2010, 04:43 PM Hi
Thanks for the reply.
I've got the jvc gyhd110. I think its got the 6 pin.
Thanks
Andrew
Chris Soucy December 6th, 2010, 06:19 PM You can achieve your objective with these two:
Firewire 400 6pin to 4pin Leads : Firewire Cables : Maplin (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=97276&OrderCode=L23BT)
That one gets rid of the power.
Firewire 6pin to 4pin Gender Changer : Firewire Cables : Maplin (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=97288)
That one takes you back to 6 pins again, without the power.
Job done. Maplin is everywhere.

Ervin Farkas December 6th, 2010, 07:21 PM Even if you go with this cable or another combination, I would not risk connecting the GY-HD100/110 while it's on. JVC admits that it has a problem with that port, and the only recommended connection strategy is to NEVER connect a cable while either device is on.
FW ports on pretty much any camcorder are delicate and should be used with maximum precaution.
Andrew Carter December 7th, 2010, 12:06 PM I know, i've read alot on this forum about powering on the JVC with the power off for both items.
R Geoff Baker December 7th, 2010, 12:36 PM Thanks for the correction on six pin camcorders -- the premise holds the same though, use a four pin connection at some point in the route and you'll have eliminated the power.
Cheers,

Colin McDonald December 19th, 2010, 03:38 PM Sorry for coming a little late to this thread, but I knew I had this gadget somewhere. Now I've found it - a retractable 4/6 pin FireWire cable from Asda. I bought this just over a year ago (can't remember how much but I think it was quite a bit less than £10).
Perhaps not the highest quality for repeated everyday use, but it works OK.
Sorry for the low quality iPhone pics - the circular sticker reads:
