hi i see sigma has brought out a lens to rival the canon 17-55 f2.8 and the tamron 17-50 f2.8.
i've held off buying either as i'm not too convinced about the tamron and the canon is very expensive.
the sigma seems to be at a price midway between the others. being a sigma i'd hope it has a better image than the tamron.
anyone used one?
how's the IS?
picture quality?
focus?
ta!

cheers ron.
it'd be interesting to read an opinion or review from someone who uses it primarily for video work.

I have one, bought it about 4 months ago. It's a great lens, really sharp with still photos, the OS is dead silent to the point where I thought it didn't work. The only issue is manual focus ring has very small tolerances, so you have to be careful pulling focus, but other than that it's my go-to lens when shooting video on my 7d.

The tamron is actually a pretty nice lens

The Tamron is a great lens. If you dismiss this lens simply because of what seems to be a silly prejudice, then you'll miss out on a great product!

I have the Tamron and it is phenomenal. I'm shooting interviews at NAB with it, in fact.

I own the Tamron as well and it's the main lens I use. Great lens, OS works well.
