What i would like to do is take a still, or video for that matter, cut out the subject in the center, save everything else the same. Have it on an upper track.

Then crop the front video track down so that the background edges fill in behind the front track. I need to do this as I used a stabilizing software which did a good job but there is some movent on the edges i would like to cover.

any ideas would be welcome.

thank you

I'm a little confused, though I'm sure it made sense when you wrote it!

Two main methods to "cut out the subject in the middle", as I understand it:

1) Drop the cookie cutter filter on that event or track. This is extremely quick, as long as you want a simple shape like a feathered circle, oval, square, or rectangle. Or, with multiple instances of the filter, multiple simple shapes.

2) The Mask track in Event Pan/Crop is very versatile, I've been using it a lot recently. It allows you keyframe control over mask position, path shape, does bezier curves, and a whole lot more. It's painstaking work on complex masks, but, it really does deliver.

Here's an intro on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slnTDtETMgg). There are a lot of other tutorials on YT too.
