I forgot to ask about this feature last week at Band Pro's open house in Burbank, CA. I got so wrapped up in the 3G/3D connectors that I didn't ask if just basic genlock in/out would be available on the first shipping units. The back of the camera shows a BNC connector labeled genlock, but I'm not sure I saw an in and an out connector.

Although having the 3D connector working will be a great advantage for cloning camera settings from Master to Slave and internal genlock - for basic 3D mirror rig work, you would only absolutely have to have genlock in/out working to lock two cameras together. The word the Sony rep gave was that the 3D features wouldn't be enabled until after NAB 2011.

It appears that ramping will not be an aspect of the F3 upon release and that it will act with a fixed fps speed as is the case with the EX3/1 but the question that Sony can answer is if it will be applied with the dual out-put for 4.4.4 recording?

Genlock is a standard feature that will work out of the box. As with most cameras you only have a single Genlock in connector and no dedicated sync output. You can use the component output to Genlock two F3's together, although the most stable results would be obtained using a Tri-Level sync generator connected to both F3's on a 3D rig.

An outboard tri-level sync generator like the AJA unit is probably the way to go for ultimate stability as well as synching externals like monitors and muxing units. Good to hear that genlock will work out of the box so waiting for the 3D option won't be so difficult now.
