My family wants me to start backing up home movies onto DVD from VHS. I was wondering what the best capture software/hardware would be to get the job done. Preferably under $500.

Yeah, there are quite a few of these gadgets around that will copy VHS to DVD. I had one a year or so ago.

Check the user reviews on the current DVD recorders. I think you will end up looking for an older model.
