Just curious what I'm doing wrong here. I use a 550D and a JVC HD 200U. Whenever I color grade using looks my footage ends up looking pretty grainy. I've seen others use the same filters on their shots and have it look great. I rarely shoot above 400iso on the 550d and never go above 6db of gain on the JVC.

Several things to take in to consideration here.

the first is how far you are pushing things in grading. When ever you move things then the noise will probably get a little worse. If things are really getting out of hand then look in to Neat Video, it can work wonders.

Mac LCDs (including the MacBooks) sometimes show more noise than your average TV, so be sure to check the footage on your intended output medium before getting too upset.

Thanks Dave for the input. I think I'll have to look into neat video... I'm running another monitor that is an LED TV. So i'm not thinking that it's my monitor.

neat video seems to do the trick and give me that clean look that I was looking for. Thanks again Dave
