I produced an MP4 that has great audio. Sounds good when the MP4 is played in a player and uploaded to Vimeo sounds good too. But i uploaded the exact same file to YouTube and the sound level is very low.

Here are the two urls for each:

YouTube - Gretchen Peters - On A Bus To St. Cloud (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-yz7iHajJs)

Gretchen Peters - On A Bus To St. Cloud on Vimeo

Anyone else experience this?

Harry

I can't listen right now, but I'm wondering if your channels were out of phase. It's possible that Vimeo encodes stereo, which would sound good and that YouTube sums the channels to mono, which would have cancellations if out of phase.

I am only detecting a few dBs difference between Vimeo and YouTube. If you uploaded a stereo file to YT it should playback that way. YouTube recommends 44.1 audio, but doubt that would affect the volume. Sometimes it takes YT a while to fully re-render a file or whatever they do to it.

Youtube sounds better at 720p and above.
