Two questions:

1.) Does anybody know why it's relatively difficult (other than on Ebay) to find Sony DSR40s for sale anywhere? I couldn't even find one at B&H. I have a client who wants to buy a DVCam deck like the DSR40 so they can stop renting one and save money over time.

2.) Is anybody on here selling a used one or know of other reliable sites that are (other than Ebay)?

Most (if not all) of Sony's HDV decks play DVCAM.

Practically all of the old Sony DSR decks will play either DV or DVCAM. Even my old no longer working DSR11 did both so they're out there, just a little due diligence when looking and I'm sure your client will find a decent one.

Josh, what features does your client NEED? Just Firewire input/output? Analog component and sync? RS422 device control?

As Fred says, the HVR series HDV decks all play back DV/DVCam. Just find a deck that has the required features.

Thanks Fred and Don. I'll search and see what the cheapest option is for the client now.

@Shaun: Just the ability to be able to capture DVCam tapes. Really basic need.
