When I drag an image into FCP it's incredibly long; roughly 10mins......Is there a setting to bring it in smaller? It use to bring images in at a more standard size (10 seconds or so), but I guess a setting got messed up.

It's under user preferences. Select the editing tab and change the "Still/Freeze Duration" to something shorter.

Why are you dragging whole clips to the timeline?

Find your in/out points in the Viewer (and duration) before you drag them to the timeline... or better yet, use the function key shotcuts. Simple step, big time savings.

Kevin, I'm just talking about images. Do you drag images into the viewer? I like dropping the image in the timeline so I can see how the pacing looks in relation what the subject is talking about and then adjust according. My problem was that when I dropped the image into the timeline it was over an hour long. I have it set to 5 seconds now.

You can just double click the file in your bin and it will show up in your viewer. In the viewer window hit I for in and then O for out then drag to your timeline.

Then you can grab the ends of the image/clip and drag them out longer or shorter.

Caleb, that works too, but becomes somewhat of a hassle when you have 30 images you want to bring in at the same duration. Having each image at 10 seconds automatically makes it easy to drop in the timeline and add auto cross dissolves.
