I just saw some information suggesting that the industry is considering broadcasting 3D over ATSC by transmitting the left eye in standard 1080 MPEG-2 format and the right eye using H.264 (MPEG-4). I can only imagine the headache this group would have encoding that, but some good programming probably makes that moot. There are questions about whether there would be eye fatigue as a result of having the left and right eye encoded differently but it is too early to have done any significant testing in this area.

What are your thoughts on this? Does this open the door for more 3D imaging for us or will it only lead to a dead end overtime in your opinion? Apparently this has been shown at the 2011 NAB show so maybe some of you have seen it in action?
