Little River Canyon is located in northeast Alabama just east of Fort Payne. This river is one of the nation’s longest rivers that flows across a mountain top. It changes elevation from 1900 feet above sea level to 650, creating a spectacular gorge system.
I hiked the Little River National Preserve for two days after a heavy spring rain which put river flow at a nice level. The canyon walls are nearly vertical making travel to the gorge floor difficult except for a few locations. This is one of the best outings I have had in a while as I was awed by the primeval feeling I experienced while exploring the gorge.

Mark, I always love watching your videos, especially since I also live in Atlanta I have been to so many of these same places, including Cape San Blas. You just seem to get it all right. Didn't know you were retired Federal employee. I have over 35 years in and am thinking of getting out and just shooting video, I am planning on getting the Canon FX 300 (or next generation) as a retirement gift to myself. Looking forweard to your next one. Bob

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the compliment. Yea, after 31 years as a park ranger working on Lake Lanier, I finally had about my fill of millions of visitors each year, working too much overtime, working every weekend and dealing with criminal activity. Now I spend my time filming in parks across the south with few visitors and lots of solitude. I try to make enough money shooting video to cover my travel costs. I get a laugh when people comment "I wish I could have had your job as a park ranger." Definitely a younger man's profession.
When I took early retirement about 2 years ago I took advantage of a voluntary early retirement bonus which was my gift to myself and purchased a Panasonic HPX170, new editing computer, monitors and Edius 5. You can see some of the places I have been on my video channel in my signature.
Best Regards,
Mark

I know the feeling. After 35 years I am getting a little old for all the traveling I have to do. I cover 8 States, and am often asked to go outside my region. Here is a link to some of the videos I did for EPA. All except the first one on Savanna River are mine. Remember, shooting these videos are "other duties as assigned" Enjoy. Bob

Hello Mark,
I very much enjoyed watching this one. Stunning scenery and waterfall.
I like the crisp bright colors, and the music matched the images well.
