Like to get a Memory Recording Unit (HV-MRC1) for my Sony Z5U and I understand the issue re: the need to "stitch" the 21 min files together. Sony has a free software, rtu_util.exe, that does just that for FCP.
Haven't been able to find out from Sony if it's down loadable to FCE. I'm working on FCE 4 with a OS10.4
Mac. Any of you editing with FCE use a MRU/rtu_util.exe? Thanks

I should add that FCE 4 doesn't have a log and transfer capability, which is probably the answer to my question re: compatibility. Just wondering if any of you working on FCE with a memory recording unit, like the MRC1, have found a work around?

Well for starters you'll have to re-wrap the MRC1K files form .m2t to .mov.

The easiest way to do this is to get ClipWrap (http://www.divergentmedia.com/clipwrap)

This will let you re-wrap all of the the .m2t files as well as stitch together spanned files. As a result there is NO image loss.
BTW, all re-wrapping the file files do is wrap the file in the appropriate codec for your system, .m2t si fine for PC but MAC (FCP/FCE) prefers .mov.

Clipwrap also does file conversion if desired.

GREAT Program.

Thank you, Michael, for the link to Clip Wrap. They say that the speed of conversion is nearly as fast as a file copy. Would you agree with that? One of the big pluses to having MRC1 is that it speeds up the ingesting process. I would hope that going through the clip wrap wouldn't cost me that advantage.
Thanks, David
