Hi everyone,

I created a 90 sec promo clip, for some friends. Its 30fps, 720p HD clip. I exported out of FCP, making a self contained QuickTime file. I then took that file into compressor, and created multiple web friendly files for them. They have asked me to give them a file they can create a DVD copy with. I used Compressor again, and it created a video and ac3 audio file (using dvd best quality setting), so I sent them that, along with the original mov file (that was exported straight from FCP). Long story short, their windows machine, and what ever dvd creation program they are using can't handle .mov files, and they don't know how to handle the separate video and audio file that was created.

Is there another compressor option I should use to send then, so they can create the dvd copy they need? Or would it be easier for me to burn the dvd, and just give them a physical copy that they can in turn make copies from that.

Thanks for the advice?

Hi Jeff.

I'm assuming that the "video" file you mention was an .m2v file.

If it's an .m2v file, then it shouldn't be in a QuickTime wrapper, so their windows system should be able to handle it (as far as I know). So it's likely that they lack a bit of know-how and it's probably best for you to author the DVD.

Or would it be easier for me to burn the dvd, and just give them a physical copy that they can in turn make copies from that.

Or you could simply give them the "disc image" as an .img file rather than a physical DVD. An .img should be easier for them to make their multiple copies from. It's certainly much easier for multiple copies on the Mac (using the Disk Utility application).

When you do your final "Format" step in DVD Studio Pro, just go down to the section called "Destination" and select (from the drop-down menu at Output Device) "Hard Drive". The Output Format should then read ".img". Click the Format button and then choose a name and destination for the new .img and save.
