For Several months using VMS10 HD platinum coupled with DVDA 5 and using the Make movie automatic sequence, I have successfully burnt the blue ray disc selection onto a Standard DVD disc.
Now all of a sudden it still burns the disc but on playback via a LG GGW-H20L player the result is a jerky image and distorted sound which starts after a few seconds of play. Previously the result was perfect. In case I had to many transitions and effects on the video I edited a new one with no transitions etc and of only a couple minutes duration. result exactly the same. Normal DVD burning is perfect and so is Blu-ray burning. What I want to know is the DVDA programme or the LG burner at fault, and how can I ascertain which is the culprit?

LG blu-ray players are some of the few that even try to play blu-ray content from DVD. Likely the bitrate is too high for smooth playback from the DVD. Try reducing it to 10 or 12mbps. Since blu-ray blanks are now about a dollar per disk, the more compatible solution is to burn BD-Rs and give up on nonstandard blu-ray format DVDs.

I have the exact same issue, but it is only a hiccup after a few seconds, then I pause and play and it is fine the rest of the time. Blurary files on DVDs are playing perfectly on my new $100 Panasonic Bluray player also, which is pretty cool. Menu is fully functional, very cool.

Eric. Here in the UK the cheapest Verbatim Blu-ray blank disc costs about 6 dollars and then there is to pay shipping on top, so you can seen why I still use DVD's with blu-ray definition which cost 50 cents.

Jeff. I have now managed to burn Blu-ray onto DVD disc with no distortion and great definition when shown on a 50" HDTV. All I have done is to by-pass the auto link between VMS and DVDA, that's where the trouble appears to be (whatever it is). I simply click on Make movie and render the file to the hard drive. I then switch off VMS and open up DVDA 5 and insert the file from the hard drive into DVDA 5 and click on Make blu-ray. Result, happiily, perfection.

Glad you found a workaround Roy. I use Vegas pro, and DVDA and Vegas are separate programs, thankfully. My DVDs are looking great also, very happy. Looks like we're happy campers.
