Hi,

I have uploaded a set of raw MTS files from my recent shooting trip to my Vimeo account. You can download the .MTS files from these pages:

Mike Beckett's videos on Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/mikebeckett/videos)

They show the camera being used in a vaariety of situations, including high detail (windy trees), handheld, and water reflections and ripples.

Thank you for taking the time to post the videos. Very much appreciate it.

If you plan on shooting any more test videos, could you zoom in/out using the LCD (not the rocker)? I'd like to see how slow the zoom is. Thank you!

Here's the funny thing... I can't find anything on the LCD that will let you zoom!

Maybe this is the CX700 only?

Try the following:

Touch anywhere on the LCD screen (that's not a button) to see if the zoom in/out and record buttons appear.

or

Keep pressing the "DISPLAY" button on the camcorder (located on the side of the camera, below the battery door) until you get a detailed display on the LCD. This should make the buttons appear for zoom and record.

Andy,

Got it! I had cycled through the Display options before, but didn't tap the screen (or maybe just missed it). Excellent, thank you!

I will try some footage soon. It certainly seems very smooth, and might do at a pinch if you can't carry a Lanc controller (or if it's raining).

I have taken some new footage tonight to show the Tele Macro in action, and also some slow zooms using my Libec Lanc controller. I hope to get those online tomorrow.

A sample of the zooming is shown below:

Sony NX70 - Zoom test on Vimeo

With the Lanc control, I can do a wide-tele zoom (or vice versa) in 20 seconds, nice and slow.

With the LCD panel, The zoom is around 10 seconds. Still quite usable.

The Vimeo playback may be a bit jerky. Download the original video from Vimeo to see it in its 1920x1080 50p glory!

Mike,

Terrific, thank you for using the touchscreen to zoom as part of your test. I was a little concerned that it would be too slow, like some other camcorders I've tested.

When using the zoom rocker on my current cam, I sometimes apply too much or too little pressure, so I just use the buttons on the LCD because of its one speed zoom.

On this site we allow Vimeo embedding only... not YouTube.

I think you should only allow Vimeo Plus.

Oh, I'm a snob. Just kidding!

Hi Mike, How do you upload MTS files to a computer and then to Vimeo? When I bring them to my Mac I can't read them. Need to use ClipWrap and they become .mov

Thx

Hi,

It's possible that your editing software doesn't like the MTS files, hence the need to transcode using Clipwrap.

I use Premiere Pro CS5 on my PC, and can import the MTS files directly and work with them. I sometimes transcode to Neoscene, but that doesn't bring me a lot of benefit.

The clips I put on Vimeo are straight from the camera, without any editing, so it's just a matter of directly uploading the MTS file I copy form the camera.
