I burned a DVD and when I play it on computer with PowerDVD the picture looks squished side way. This sorts of make sense because I used DV footage and it's 720x480 which isn't 4:3. What is the correct way to encorde DVD mpeg2 so that when I burned it to DVD playback looks normal

Sounds like you had the camera in 16:9 mode when you shot it and then captured it as a regular 4:3 project.

Thanks you for the answer. I did use regular mode to tape the show and it still look squished. So far I did:

1) Set pixil ratio to 1 and captured from DV with 640 480
2) Used various aspect ratio setting in tsuhami
3) Captured analog then processed it.

Those didn't help and I don't know why it look squished. Even the preview in tsunami look squished if i set it to 320 x 240.

Is this expected? If DV's res is really 720 x 480, then wouldn't it get squished side way if I made it display on 4:3 display?

DV NTSC is 720x480. So is DVD/MPEG2 NTSC. Make sure you
ALSO capture AT 720x480!!! The resolution should stay the
same throughout your project.

Are you sure you haven't toggled on the 16:9 flag by accident
in either the mpeg encoding program or authoring package?

Oh, and your footage isn't square pixel! It should be imported
at 720x480 and at the right aspect ratio which is 0.9 for NTSC
and 1.067 for PAL.

Yep Yep I did all those but still look squished when I play it on my compter witn windvd

I've got no clue then.... I've done this myself a couple of times
without any problems. What software are you using for:

1. capturing
2. editing
3. creating MPEG2
4. authoring your DVD
5. burning your DVD

?

Can you also indicate for each step what resolution/settings
etc. you are using?
