Is there a way to improve the speed of FCPX? I was wondering if I should keep my events folder on a different drive then my imported media. Or is there a way to allocate more memory to FCPX? I have a 2008 iMac with 4 gigs of memory. I really hope I don't need to buy a new computer. That would make this upgrade very expensive for me. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Use a fast external RAID/Drive for media Event and Project folder.

Create proxy media, it speeds things up well.

Only have FCPX running. Quit other apps.

I have also heard that Lion speeds things up, and drops fewer frames, I have not tried this myself yet.

I noticed a speed improvement with Lion. Nothing major, but enough to feel fairly confident that it's not just in my head. It does also seem slightly crashier though...

I noticed a slight increase in speed with Lion; but I've lost the ability to "see" files on the WIndows drive (under BootCamp). I used to be able to move files from the Windows side into OSX, but that's apparently gone now. In fact, it doesn't even show the BootCamp drive icon on the desktop, or in Finder anymore. Things work fine on the Windows side, I just can't "see" them on the Mac OS side.

And I learned the hard way not to use the same G-drive for the events folder and source material. It takes FOR-EV-ER to import/transcode that way.
