Hey guys....

I'm gonna be shooting high school football for one of the local news affiliates on a weekly basis. Their format is 720p30 (they shoot on JVC GY-HM710's); I'll be shooting on my Sony V1U in 1080p30. I'll be editing the footage in Final Cut Pro 7 and FTP'ing it to them on the go. Their desired formats are either M2T, (Transport Stream Mpeg-2, HD) or M2P (Program Stream Mpeg-2, HD), which I'll use through Compressor.

I'm trying to figure out the workflow though. What would be my capture settings? Do I capture natively at HDV 1080p30 into a 1080p30 project, but edit on a 720p30 timeline? Do I capture into an already established 720p30 project? Should I capture using a ProRes format and edit on a 720p30 timeline?

Capture native HDV 1080p30 into a 1080p30 project, export to 720p30. Skip Compressor. Short & sweet. Do some testing for quality vs. file size as FTP uploading can be SLOW.

I'll actually be using this program that an old co-worker of mine came up with, called Latakoo, which transfers HD files at high speeds. The station I'll be working with has already employed the program into their ENG workflow. HD FTP in a matter of minutes! Crazy!

So I've done an "Easy Setup" HDV 1080i60 for my entire project (since my captured footage is actually 30p over 60i), but I can't get my camera to connect to Final Cut Pro. Tried unplugging and plugging, adjusting my camera settings (iLink on/off), changed to downconvert to DV (changing project settings as well), all to no avail.

Is there something I'm missing or could my firewire port be damaged?

(I don't see any device indication on the desktop when the camera's plugged in and turned on, so I don't believe the camera's being picked up at all)
