View Full Version : Premiere to After Effects, how do I keep my transitions?

Hi Guys,

If I have a sequence in Premiere CS5.5, with a mixture of Dissolves and Fades throughout, when I colour grade in After Effects CS5.5 I go via the route of "Replace with After Effects Composition" and send that clip to AE.

When I colour, and send back, I've lost any transitions and the pre-roll frames on the clip are now gone, meaning transitions can't be added on or the clip extended as there aren't any frames leading up to the clip.

What workflow do you guys suggest to make it possible to colour in After Effects, but retain transitions/pre-roll on clips?

Thanks!

Neil

I usually add handles manually by copying the clip to a layer above and then sending it to After Effects. However it is very troublesome, and also when I had about 400 clips replaced with Dynamic Link comps, Adobe Media Encoder literally took ages to even load the project. I waited about an hour, and gave up. Exporting directly from Premiere was the only option.

To keep the handles you can move the clip to a higer track, extend clip to handles length. Or copy, superimpose, extend and replace with AE comp.
